FAQ
Q: What brewing vessel is best for · Hill & Tea° teas?
Yes — and it depends on which line you are brewing from.
For the Standard line, use our Brew Bottle. Place your compressed pearl or square disc directly into the bottle, pour in hot water, and drink. That's it.
For the Premium line, use a gaiwan or any small teapot you have at home. Simple, clean, no complicated setup required.
Q: How much tea should I use per brew?
For the Standard line Brew Bottle: 1 compressed pearl or square disc (5–7 grams) per session.
For the Premium line: 5–6 grams for 1–5 people, 7–8 grams for 6–10 people.
Q: Can I cold brew Hill & Tea° tea?
Yes — for the Standard line. Place 1 compressed pearl or square disc into your Brew Bottle, add warm water, and refrigerate for 2 hours. Ready to drink straight from the bottle. Clean, refreshing, and naturally sweet.
The Premium line tea biscuit is brewed with hot water only. This is how ancient tree shengcha is meant to be experienced.
Q: What water temperature should I use?
Freshly boiled water at 95–100°C. No guesswork needed, just boil and pour.
Q: How many times can I re-brew the same leaves?
For the compressed single brew using Brew Bottle: refill with hot water throughout the day. Our compressed pearls and square discs are built to last — expect up to 12–15 steeps before the flavour fades. We don't waste tea.
For tea biscuit: for the first 7 brews, pour out immediately after steeping. From the 8th brew onwards, add 2 seconds of additional steeping time per infusion. Ancient tree shengcha from XiGui MangLu regularly yields 12–15 clean infusions at full flavour depth.
Q: Is Hill & Tea° shengcha suitable for people sensitive to caffeine?
Ancient tree shengcha contains caffeine, but it releases more slowly than coffee or commercial tea — producing a calm, steady energy without the spike and crash. If you are sensitive to caffeine, start with a lighter brew and adjust from there.
