FAQ
Q: What types of tea does · Hill & Tea° carry?
Hill & Tea° carries four tea types, all sourced from XiGui MangLu, Yunnan: Ancient Custom ShengCha (raw puerh), Ancient Custom Sprinkle ShouCha (ripe puerh), Ancient Sun-Dried Black Tea, and Ancient Custom White Tea. Each type is distinct in processing method, flavour profile, and health character.
Q: What is the difference between shengcha and shoucha?
ShengCha (生茶) is raw puerh — minimally processed, naturally fermented over time, with a complex, evolving flavour that strengthens with age. ShouCha (熟茶) is ripe puerh — it undergoes an accelerated fermentation process that produces a smoother, warmer, and more mellow character. Shengcha suits experienced tea drinkers who enjoy complexity and aging potential. ShouCha is smoother and warmer in character — a natural complement to ShengCha for those who want variety.
Q: Which · Hill & Tea° tea should I try first as a beginner?
Start with our Ancient Custom ShengCha. It is the heart of what Hill & Tea° is built on — sourced from century-old ancient trees in XiGui MangLu, Lincang, Yunnan. Brew it light on your first session, use freshly boiled water, and pour out immediately after the first infusion. You will notice the natural sweetness, floral aroma, and clean finish that defines genuine ancient tree shengcha. The other teas in our collection — ShouCha, Black Tea, and White Tea — offer variety, but ShengCha is where Hill & Tea° begins.
Q: What is sun-dried black tea and how is it different from regular black tea?
Our Ancient Sun-Dried Black Tea is made from Yunnan ancient tree leaves that are dried naturally under sunlight rather than kiln-dried at high temperatures. This preserves more active compounds in the leaf, producing a softer, naturally aromatic character with honey and floral notes. It behaves more like a living tea — mild in nature, rich in flavour, and long-lasting across multiple infusions.
Q: Are · Hill & Tea° teas pesticide-free?
Our teas come from ancient trees growing naturally in forest conditions in XiGui MangLu. These trees are not farmed with pesticides or chemical fertilisers — they grow in their native environment alongside insects, animals, and native flora, which is part of what makes ancient tree tea distinctly different from commercial plantation tea.
Q: How many infusions can I get from one serving?
Most of our teas yield 12 to 15 infusions from a single serving, depending on the tea type and brewing method. Compressed puerh and aged shengcha in particular are known for their longevity — flavour often peaks between the 4th and 8th infusion.
